Entities Create Jobs to Enhance State Economy
A recent report from the Rockefeller Institute of Government looked closely at the impact nonprofit disability services providers had on the New York economy in 2023. The study also examined information collected by the New York State Industries for the Disabled (NYSID) for the same period.
Disabled Play Key Role in State’s Economy
The Rockefeller Institute assessed the impact of more than 400 nonprofit disability services providers in 2023. Those providers included both organizations and professionals who assist people with disabilities, working to help them live independently, find employment, and actively participate in their communities.
The data collected by the Rockefeller Institute found that:
- Some 408 nonprofit disability services providers contributed nearly $16 billion in revenues within the state of New York
- The disability services providers helped create more than 194,000 jobs
- The total state and federal tax revenue connected to the efforts of the nonprofit disability services provider was approximately $2.4 billion
For the NYSID, statistics show an economic impact of nearly $500 million, will about $291 million among contracts with 99 member agencies. The NYSID efforts led to 4,794 jobs averaging about 800 hours over the course of the year.
